Persistence wins : the piston has moved!
July 16, 2016
That's it : workmen have succeeded in unlocking the piston. The cylinder head had been dismanteled because we wanted to access the head of piston axis. But it has proven impossible. Yet, Momo wanted to try again. The workmen have dismanteled the head of the protection again and have taken away the heavy cast iron head with cric and levers. The cylinder in wich piston slides ususally was rusty and that blocked the piston. Cleaning, lubraicant oil, warming with a blew pipe : nothing worked.
Finaly, combinung the energy of the wheel, forced to turn thanks yo hydraulic pressure, tightening cables set between cranckshaft and foot of the clog on wich rested the ehad of piston, thanks also to a hammer hit, a noise has sounded and the piston has moved.
We insisted and the pistons kept on moving, driven by the wheel power, moved by hydraulic pressure.
After several movements and three wheel motions, the clog of the axe revealed its base and the workmen have sanded the part on wich the clog is supposed to circulate? We'll grease this part as soon as our works won't produce dust.
Now our mens keep on sanding and cleaning the engine, starting from the head of the base of the inlet valve then cleaning the wheel on its own. It was heavily rusted because of the leaks on the roof that let water pouring.
Now, thanks to a coachbuilder sander combined with a vacuum cleaner, we get back the dust without causing a dust cloud.
As for the another machines, we'll clean the Carles with soap and brushes to take back non-adherent elements while keeping the main part of the intial painting layer.
